The Problem

A long existing problem with junior dragsters is the ability for the throttle cable to pop up out of the socket it goes into. When this happens, it can hang on the edge causing a hung throttle situation. When this occurs, the car will want to surge forward and there is nothing the driver can do but cut the car off.

The Solution

Through Rowans Racing, Computech has developed a very simple part that can clamp around the base of the socket and then clamps down on the throttle cable itself. When installed correctly, this will prevent the throttle cable from moving in the socket and prevent this type of hung throttle.

This Free Throttle Cable Lock compliments of Computech will allow you to easily secure your throttle cable at the carb and help prevent a hung throttle. Installing the throttle cable lock is very simple and comes with the zip ties needed.

There are two options for the throttle cable lock, the standard which has a sharp lip at the bottom and the rounded which is rounded. Please refer to the image and select the correct option in the dropdown.

Description

This Free Throttle Cable Lock compliments of Computech will allow you to easily secure your throttle cable at the carb and help prevent a hung throttle. Installing the throttle cable lock is very simple and comes with the zip ties needed.

Identify which side is the top and then zip tie the bottom section first. After the bottom is zip tied and tight, zip tie the top and trim the zip tie excess. Your throttle cable should now be secure.

There are two options for the throttle cable lock, the standard which has a sharp lip at the bottom and the rounded which is rounded. Please refer to the image and select the correct option in the dropdown.

**UPDATE** – If you ordered a throttle cable lock before there was an option for Standard and Rounded, and you need Rounded, please place another order for what you need. We will ship both of them out to you and if you don’t need it, please keep it on the trailer and give it to someone that does need it.

Installation Procedure
1. Identify Top & Clamp

Refer to the drawing and make sure that both halves of the lock are oriented the correct direction. Wrap both sides around the metal socket and hold it in place.

2. Zip Tie Bottom

Place one of the supplied zip ties on the bottom part of the clamp and make sure it is nice and tight before moving on. You can use plyers to tighten.

3. Zip Tie Top & Clip

Zip tie the top and make sure that it is secure, then clip off the zip ties. When done, give the throttle cable a gentle tug to ensure that it is secure.

Did You Get The Wrong Style?

If you ordered the wrong style, its ok. Simply order another and keep the wrong one in your trailer. If you are at the track and see a junior racer that needs a throttle lock, hook them up and help keep the junior community safe.

If yours came and was damaged, don’t worry. Order another and we have already modified how they are shipped to try and protect them.

We encourage all tracks to keep these on hand and give them away to any junior driver that may need one. This simple safety device can install in seconds , comes with the zip ties you need and can help prevent a hung throttle.

Tracks can choose a ratio of locks that fit their needs and can order replacements this way as well. We do ask that when ordering you list which track you are affiliated with so we can add you to our list of participating tracks.
